Wanted: Atlantic City PD Seeks Fugitive On Weapons Charges After Alleged Car Theft With 3 Teens

Atlantic City police are seeking the public's help locating a 20-year-old fugitive who is wanted on multiple weapons charges, authorities said.

The alleged fugitive  and three juvenile males, who are now in custody, are accused of heisting  a vehicle from Cumberland County last month, an Atlantic City police.spokesman said.

At 4:24 p.m. on May 5, Atlantic City police responded to Chesapeake Court after an alert abouit a car stolen from from Vineland, the city spokesman, Lt. Kevin Fair said. 

The police from Cumberland County the stolen car was headed toward  Atlantic City, according to Fair.

Atlantic City Police Officers Martina Martin and Isaiah Harding found the stolen vehicle and  tried to stop it. 

The vehicle and its occupants sped away, Fair said, before crashing at Delta and Adriatic avenues.

As police got to the crash scene, four occupants fled on foot, according to Fair.

Officers Martin and Harding were able to catch  a 17-year-old juvenile and place him in custody without incident. The three other occupants were not immediately arrested, according to Fair.

Inside the crashed vehicle, officers recovered two loaded handguns, the lieutenant said.

One handgun contained hollow-point ammunition and both had large capacity magazines, he said.

An investigation by detectives helped identify the three teenage males who fled, he said.

And a wanted warrant was issued for Altarik Hopkins, also known as Cody Hood, Fair sud.

Two juvenile males, 14 and 16, were charged with multiple weapons offenses, Fair said.

A New Jersey State Police lab analysis of the recovered handguns concluded that one was used in two prior shootings in Atlantic City, according to Fair.

That resulted in another weapons charge, he said.

The 17-year-old was  arraigned, and hit with new charges for "the community gun," and released on a summons, Fair said.

The 14-year old juvenile from Atlantic City also was charged with multiple offenses including possession of a high capacity magazine, possession of hollow-point ammunition, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy.

That juvenile was  charged while in custody at Harborfields Detention Facility. 

A 16-year old juvenile from Atlantic City.faces similar charges, Fair said. He, too, was released on a summons with a future court date, the lieutenant said.
